Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of the Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but failed
Line of Events
After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, attempts to take over Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the Bat-Signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in „The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer the question: Where the hell was Batman?

For his own series, however, the character is depicted as an occasional tobacco user, with a preference for cigars. An umbrella falls and the logo changes to that of Warner Bros.

The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman, and I imagine those who haven’t seen the last one will be a little lost. But I watched Batman a while back, and this series did an admirable job of quickly getting me to where the movie left off, without getting bogged down in a didactic summary.
The character may be nothing like the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own right
It also captures the film’s dark tone and aesthetic well, although the series has far more moments of sly levity than the movie. As in Batman, Colin Farrell does an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mobster „street guy”: rude, dirty, vivacious, and prone to violence; but also sympathetic, cunning, and able to read people.
But so far everything has started very well
I have my doubts about the show having the Penguin play the teenage sidekick; and I don’t know if the Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain a full season.
