In the timeless city of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family love, forget and cannot escape their past and their destiny. It is the most expensive Netflix production project in Latin America, involving Colombian teams and indigenous people. Communities build props and sets for the series. 100 años de soledad is one of the greatest conventions of Spanish literature. Its style is unmatched and its scope goes beyond imagination. The characters are so well-developed that any screenwriter would have no problem writing them for the screen. However, the seemingly insurmountable problem of adapting the novel was its time. Condensing a hundred years of family history and the history of the nation was an impossible task. Almost 60 years after its publication, the novel has found a cinematic screen on Netflix. Only streaming can do it justice, and the first 2 episodes are really promising. Great cinematography, artistic direction and respect for the characters. García Márquez’s wonderful prose needs a voice to occasionally reveal itself. The plot unfolds smoothly, with richness and depth. I really enjoyed it and was a bit skeptical whether the magical world of GGM could be transferred to the screen.
